Inaugurated on June 5, 2001, the Angra dos Reis Temple in the city of Angra dos Reis in the municipality of Angra dos Reis, state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, with two ancillary buildings: the Chapel of the "Nova Igreja", and the Penitentiary, the church of the "Santuário Padroeiro.
The temple is the largest religious structure in the Americas, with a volume of. The building itself is approximately 250m², to accommodate the growing population in the municipality and state, which has been growing in recent years.
The temple was designed by the architect Luís Felipe de Lima Filho, with structural engineer Paulo de Almeida Gonçalves, who has also assisted in the implementation of the temple.
